Good evening,
I will write this in english so I can hopefully express myself clearly. I hope that is ok with everyone. I just got off the phone with a parent that was concerned and surprised with how we divided the teams today. I fully understand if others have similar concerns, but most importantly I'm sorry that our thoughts weren't adequately communicated to everyone. I sincerely apologize. I thought that this was explained, but I now realize that it was not.
Our thinking was to make two teams for the local ÖBU series because teams would be moving up and down each month and we decided to divide the teams somewhat according to the players development so far. Our thinking was that some players would do well to play with others of similar development in order to be able to take a bigger responsibility in their "team" and to develop team play together. This is of course a challenge since there is so much overlap among the players. Unfortunatley, much of the time many players are left behind as more dominate players control the ball most of the time. I understand that this can be a challenge for the kids to understand, but I tried to explain to them our thinking and that there is a large degree of overlap, so I wouldn't call it a A and B team, but that's probably not possible to avoid. Next year things will start to get more selective and competetive with USM, so I thought this might be a slight move in that direction, so they start to understand that they need to work hard to continue to develop. I think it's important for them to understand that this is not set in stone. I would like to see kids take a step forward and show what they've got. I've said this to them, but I will be sure to reiterate this point. The idea was not that we'd be playing each other, but that we'd be playing other teams of varied levels, but I tried to make sure the kids knew that our focus is development. That may be too much to ask. We'll have to see what works best moving forward.
As usual our plan for the regional series is to create relatively balanced teams so all the kids also get the chance to play with others of varied abilities.
Again I apologize for not explaining my thoughts earlier and I am happy to hear your thoughts. My main concern is that the players all get opportunities for personal development.
